Activity Pace
From January 1 to July 1, 2026, Ogun State experienced a significant decrease in security incidents, with a 36.5% drop in total incidents compared to the same period in 2025. Fatalities also saw a substantial reduction of 33.8%, and the number of victims decreased by 36.4%. This downward trend suggests an improvement in overall security conditions across the state during the first half of 2026.
Rising Risk
While overall incidents have decreased, 'Transportation Accidents' remain the most frequent risk, accounting for 26 incidents between January 1 and July 1, 2026. This indicates that road safety continues to be a primary concern, potentially exacerbated by infrastructure or driver behavior, and requires ongoing attention despite broader security improvements.
Severity Level
During the period of January 1 to July 1, 2026, Ogun State recorded 88 fatalities from 99 incidents, resulting in a lethality rate of approximately 88.9%. This high fatality rate, particularly when compared to the 133 fatalities from 156 incidents in the prior year (approx. 85.3%), highlights that while the number of incidents has decreased, the severity of those that do occur remains a critical concern.
Future Outlook
The observed decrease in incidents and fatalities from January 1 to July 1, 2026, suggests a positive security trajectory for Ogun State. However, the persistent high lethality rate indicates that security forces should remain vigilant and focus on mitigating the impact of incidents, especially those involving 'Transportation Accidents' and 'Homicide', to maintain this downward trend.
